Fado Ballet
After a longer break, this time “Belgrade Faddist” will perform fado choreodrama “Lisbon Story” on 18th March at 19:30, but for the first time on Madlenianum Opera and Theatre stage. In the choreography of Aleksandar Sasa Ilic and Maja Volk’s narration, Belgrade faddists and soloists of the National Theatre Ballet, through their temperament dancing, dancing full of passion at fado music, reflect the sleepless Lisbon nights, but life as well.
So far this first fado ballet in this region, with interlaced voices of dramatic powerful Nevena Filipovic, Mediterranean Bojan Knezevic and mature alto of Maja Volk, together with the modern and emotions charged choreography of Aleksandar Sasa Ilic, with young and virtuoso dancers: Milos Isailovic, Ivana Kozomara, Olga Olcan, Ana Ivancevic, Milos Marijan and Milos Kecman, has been welcome with ovations at all its performances and ended with repeated ballet tunes for an encore.
The co-author of this unique performance, Maja Volk, says: “Is the suffering really noble characteristic that makes people better, and Fado, the art of melancholy and sadness, the song of unhappy ones? I do not know. I know that I have gone through, experienced and lived each song, and I know the reason. We offer ballet, song, music and story to the audience, so that you also realize why you love in your life, to live by this music and dance to it exactly in these steps… and because of that, I sing like I breathe, to live…I love more than my heart can take…I have strength…let God give me a desire to persevere in that strength…”.
